For text:
1)
Download the Microsoft
Word files onto your computer. Make sure to put them on a folder on the hard
driver where you can find them.
2)
Copy edit the text as
needed before importing it on your page.
3)
Write headlines
according to the demands of your page design.
4)
Make final fixes to your
copy as needed.
5)
Send the final,
corrected versions of the MSWord documents to me at ebond@ithaca.edu. Make sure I can tell which
group they belong to from the filename. And each group should only send me one
set of files.
For photos and graphics:
1)
Download art from the
Web site onto your hard drive as a JPEG.
2)
When you import your
files into Indesign, make sure that the photo fills the frame (what I mean
by "no white lines.")
3)
Make sure the cutline
information matches the photos and are accurate.
4)
You don't have to e-mail
the photos back to me. But you would e-mail the cutlines back as separate
MSWord documents.
To
create your page in Indesign:
1)
Before opening/creating
a new page, make sure the preferences are set to measure in inches, not picas.
2)
Create the page with
these dimensions: Width - 12.75 inches; Height – 22.12. Set the number of
columns at 6.
3)
Save the Indesign file
to a folder on the computer's hard drive – IMMEDIATELY. Please remember
to save often as you work!
4) To turn in your pages at the end of the session, you will need to create Acrobat PDFs. To do that, you create the PDFs by using the application's print function. However, instead of using a physical printer, you print it to Acrobat and create a PDF file on your desktop. That PDF file can be used to print to the physical printer and then also e-mailed to me at ebond@ithaca.edu. There may be some setting issues that may need to be resolved, but I can help you with those.
MOST IMPORTANT: When you
create the PDF, make sure to click the "Scale to Fit" button to
make sure that the entire page is included in the document.
Attendance:
Unless you have talked with me ahead of time regarding a schedule conflict, I am expecting everyone to show up for the Rotation labs. Anybody who fails to show up without talking/emailing your teammates and me ahead of time will forfeit that portion of your rotation grade. We're all counting on everyone showing up and doing their jobs.
Note:
I
expect to see improvement from week to week as you learn from each other and
figure out what works best for your group. Teamwork is still the key to
success. Please feel free to ask me about anything that confuses you. Good
luck.
