A Big Thanks
Feb 10, 2009
Professor Bond,
I just wanted to send a quick note of thanks. I took your news editing
class a few years ago at IC. In my few years as a reporter, I can't tell you
how many times I've put that knowledge to use. I remember being very hesitant
going into the class, since it was often associated with those on the print
track. Now, seeing how important correct writing, grammar, etc. is in the
"real world" of news regardless of medium, I'm so thankful I took
your class. It seems every day I'm put in a position where I have to think back
to your lectures, whether it's remembering if "underway" is used as
two words or one, or whether it's appropriate to use "more than"
versus "over." Just thought you'd enjoy hearing from a former student
about how beneficial that knowledge really is, even in broadcast news. I'm
currently a reporter at the NBC in Raleigh, North Carolina. I always feel I
have an advantage over my peers, since many of them didn't bother to take this
type of class in college. Hope all is well in New York! Justin Moss
